Owned by the national government, the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) runs television and radio stations throughout the country. The company broadcasts to the general public 19 radio stations (AM and FM) and six television programs. State-owned companies are among the largest in South Africa. In addition, it provides Internet news services.
The SABC is headquartered in the suburb of Auckland Park in Johannesburg. Its offices, broadcast studios, and radio stations are located there. In other parts of South Africa, the SABC has more offices and studios. SABC transmitters are located throughout the country.
SABC ( Internship Archivist GP) 2022
SABC has announced an exciting opportunity for three Sound Engineering Graduates to join their Technology RRTO team. The purpose of this 12-month graduate programme is to offer a selection, appraisal, acquisition, preservation and cataloging of archive content for preserving the heritage of Broadcast by processing independent requests, for both external and internal clients, by availing content.
The aim of internships by SABC is to provide opportunities to the students to work with their teams and clients to address the major business problems while also identifying growth areas of the company. The education and experience gained in the internships will help the students to effectively face real-world challenges from day one.
Location: Auckland Park
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Work with Radio Archives to acquire broadcast content from a variety of sources.
Provide assistance with selecting from the program schedules broadcast content with archival potential.
Assist in establishing the archival value of chosen and acquired content.
Ensure data integrity by helping to catalog selected materials according to Radio Archives standards.
Work on technical duties, e.g. audio editing, compilations of CDs, and pre-mastering of CDs.

Experience in sound production or a certificate/diploma in sound engineering
Sound knowledge at a basic level
Handling and knowledge of sound carriers
