The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) in South Africa province has reported that around 300,000 Zimbabweans residing in South Africa are making their way back to Zimbabwe to participate in the national elections scheduled for August 23, 2023.

The CCC members disclosed that their records show 300,000 individuals are set to return to Zimbabwe to cast their votes for a new government.

Bongani Mhlahlandlela Mathe, Interim Chairperson of CCC’s South Africa province, confirmed this information during an interview at CCC’s rally in Bulawayo.

Mathe mentioned that these individuals are already registered to vote. He explained that some registered at Beitbridge, while others did so during their holidays.

He emphasized that people are coming back with the hope of a change in government.

The CCC aims to facilitate the return of these Zimbabweans for the elections. Mathe mentioned that the organization has helped mobilize voters within the SADC region.

He clarified that some people might use their own transportation instead of buses provided by South Africa’s opposition leader, Julius Malema’s Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party.

The CCC has been active in organizing rallies and events to encourage participation in the upcoming elections, with the goal of challenging the ruling Zanu-PF party, which has held power since 1980.
