Appollis’ limitations costing Orlando Pirates, says ex-Chiefs attacker

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khnaye has highlighted Oswin Appollis‘ weakness following Orlando Pirates‘ defeat against Sekhukhune United.

The Buccaneers went down 1-0 to Babina Noko on Saturday evening in their first league match of the season. Despite Pirates signing 12 players during pre-season, they failed to score in 90 minutes and ultimately saw them go down at home.

Appollis, who joined the Sea Robbers in July from Polokwane City, appeared to have adapted to his new team when he scored against his old team last week in the MTN8, but was found wanting on Saturday.

Khanye feels the Bafana Bafana winger is limited and should operate in different attacking positions and not just on the left.

Appollis should find a way at Pirates, says Khanye

“There are players for certain teams, and when I speak, people think I’m drunk. This boy performs when he plays for other teams. I was surprised to see a winger who can’t play on the left-hand side. You are an attacking player; you have to play on the left or right-hand side, regardless of whether you’re left or right-footed.

“I’m surprised that Appollis can’t play on the right-hand side. He is limited and too direct,” Khanye added.

Having gone down 1-0 in their opening league match, Pirates will face Marumo Gallants in their next league match. After that, it’s back to the MTN8 where the Buccaneers will host rivals Mamelodi Sundowns in the first leg of the MTN8 semi-finals.

Oswin Appollis and Relebohile Mofokeng appear to be struggling to complement each other at Pirates, giventhat both players operate effectively on the left wing.

Can Mofokeng and Appollis play together?
