Appollis gives Mbokazi half of his 100k

Orlando Pirates winger Oswin Appollis has offered half of his Man of the Match earnings to his teammate Mbekezile Mbokazi following his Carling Knockout Cup heroics.

The 20-year-old defender scored the winning goal for the Buccaneers against Siwelele on Saturday afternoon in Orlando. With the match heading for extra time, Mbokazi unleashed a shot from 30 yards out to give the Buccaneers a hard-fought 1-0 win.

Appollis, who was awarded Man of the Match, said after the match that he will share R100 000 of the prize money with Mbokazi.

“What a brilliant goal from [Mbekezeli] Mbokazi. To be honest, I think he deserved it [Man of the Match] more today, because he was fighting and defending,” Appollis told SuperSport TV.

“I’ll definitely have to cut [my cheque] because what a goal. I’ll definitely share with him.”

Appollis to give Mbokazi his share

A win on Saturday saw the Buccaneers extend their winning streak to eight matches across all competitions. Orlando Pirates suffered back-to-back defeats in their opening two league matches but have since found their rhythm this season.

Having already won the MTN8 trophy this season, the Buccaneers are now aiming for the Carling Cup, which has eluded them for 13 years. Both Appollis and Mbokazi were playing their first Carling KO match for the Sea Robbers and perhaps their presence in this tournament could be a charm.

Orlando Pirates are next in action on 17 October against Congolese side FC Saint-Éloi Lupopo in the CAF Champions League second preliminary round.

How good is Mbokazi?
