Apple Introduces Bilingual Siri And Full-Page Screenshot Feature With IOS 17

Apple has made a significant addition to Siri, now offering support for bilingual queries in select Indic languages. Users will be able to seamlessly mix English with Hindi, Telegu, Punjabi, Kannada, or Marathi when interacting with Siri.

Although Apple is arriving slightly late to the multilingual voice assistant scene compared to Google Assistant (2018) and Amazon (2019), this feature is particularly valuable for users in India who frequently converse in a blend of languages.

Furthermore, apple also introduces the long-awaited full-page screenshot feature, a functionality that Android phones have offered for years under the name “Scrolling screenshots.”

Users can now capture entire webpages and save them as images or PDF files, enhancing the versatility and convenience of the screenshot experience. Previously, iOS users were limited to saving full-page screenshots as PDF files only.

Dual-SIM users also receive enhanced support with iOS 17. They can now enjoy per-SIM sorting of messages, assign separate ringtones for each SIM, and even choose the desired SIM when returning calls from unknown numbers.

These improvements optimize the user experience and provide greater flexibility for managing multiple SIM cards effectively.

Apple’s commitment to its Indian users extends beyond these major updates, with several additional enhancements across platforms:

  • iOS now offers transliteration support for Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam, expanding Apple’s Indic language support to a total of 10 languages.
  • Users can now sign into their Apple ID using their phone number instead of an email ID on iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and macOS Sonoma.
  • A new built-in Punjabi dictionary has been introduced, enabling users to easily access word and phrase definitions across various Apple platforms.
  • The call history section now displays up to 2,000 calls, including Facetime and WhatsApp calls.

  • iPad users can filter messages based on known and unknown senders, streamlining message organization and navigation.

Apple plans to release stable versions of iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and macOS Sonoma later this fall. As the current beta versions may contain some bugs, those hesitant to install them on their primary devices can patiently await the final public release.
