The younger daughter of former president Jacob Zuma is accused of causing divisions in the Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party by creating other groups within its area of governance.
Brumelda Zuma, who is a former student of the University of Zululand, allegedly sabotaged the MK Women’s League event by organising an event in Empangeni near Richards Bay with the assistance of other MK members of the KZN Legislature.
This has caused controversy and angered the leadership of the party in the King Cetshwayo District.
They have also written a letter to Zuma complaining about Brumelda’s conduct.
“The political landscape in the King Cetshwayo region has become increasingly tumultuous, with Brumelda Zuma, the daughter of the president of the MK party, emerging as a central figure in the controversy.
“Her recent actions have heightened tensions and divided the region further, raising concerns about the integrity and future of the MK party’s operations.
“Brumelda Zuma, who has recently joined MK, has been accused of deepening existing divisions within the region, traditionally known for its strong political affiliations,” the letter reads.
The letter further states that her involvement has reportedly included establishing and supporting “parallel structures” – or bogus branches – within the King Cetshwayo Region. This move has sparked widespread criticism and concern among local and regional political leaders.
Brumelda is further criticised for her personal connection to a prominent ANC leader – a detail that has fuelled speculation and unease within political circles.
The nature of this relationship and its implications for local politics remain a topic of great interest and concern.
“This past Saturday, the situation reached a new level of scrutiny when a planned event by the Women’s League, aimed at celebrating and supporting women, was overshadowed by a competing event organised by Brumelda Zuma and her allies. This parallel gathering was planned and supported by members of the MK party who back the controversial structures,” the letter reads.
It also revealed the names of leaders who are working with Brumelda in creating alternative groupings within MK.
It further said that the event, which was held in Empangeni, has been described as a raucous celebration with excessive consumption of alcohol and loud music.
The letter claims that this gathering is the third of its kind in recent months, following similar events held at swimming pool parks in Esikhawini and Empangeni.
Brumelda told Scrolla.Africa that these allegations should have been raised within the party, not the media.
“I am shocked that they have decided to leak this to the media instead of taking it to internal party structures,” she said.
The complaints about Brumelda come after her half-sister Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla has been accused of using her father to expel people in top positions and parliament.
