The 22-year-old Bafana Bafana star stormed into the Scottish Premiership with the Player of the Month award. The accolade follows after it was reported that several clubs in England, Spain and Italy have taken note of his talent.

A subsequent report revealed that Brentford were the English club setting sights on Makhanya.

BAFANA BAFANA STAR OLWETHU MAKHANYA ATTRACTS MORE INTEREST FROM ENGLAND

According to the Turkish transfer report Ekrem Kanur, English Premier League side Sunderland sent scouts to watch Makhanya in the Scottish Premier League this past weekend.

Makhanya’s award comes after an impressive September for Rangers, during which the club won all five of their fixtures, including four Scottish Premiership matches.

“I am really proud to receive this award, and I’d like to thank my teammates and all the staff for their support,” he told RangersTV. “They have helped me settle in and feel part of the group and that makes a big difference when you come to a new club.

The Bafana Bafana central defender made an immediate impact following his July move from Philadelphia Union to Rangers. Makhanya had started all six of his league appearances, playing 540 minutes and helping Rangers keep four clean sheets. He had completed 323 passes with an 85.2% accuracy rate and recorded a 7.46 match rating.

His defensive statistics were equally impressive. Across his first five matches, he recorded 20 clearances, four blocks and five interceptions. His clearance tally later increased to 24.

Makhanya began his career in the Marumo Gallants reserve team before joining Stellenbosch FC. He later moved to the USA to play for Philadelphia Union before securing his move to Rangers.

Meanwhile, Rangers are currently second in the Scottish Premiership with two points adrift leaders and fierce rivals Celtic. Coming up next is a trip to Dundee on Saturday 17 October at 21:00.
