Eastern Cape police have confirmed that six members of the Community Policing Forum (CPF) were shot and killed, and four others were injured on Sunday night.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli confirmed the incident.

“Six victims were fatally shot while four were injured and taken to hospital for treatment. The incident occurred last night [Sunday], where unknown suspects pounced and shot at the victims,” he said.

Nkohli said the motive for the shooting is unclear at this stage.

This incident follows a mass shooting that left 18 people dead in Lusikisiki last week.

The victims were preparing for a traditional ritual called ukukhululwa kwezila to mark the end of mourning for two family members who were murdered last year.

This is a developing story.
