  • Another body has been discovered in Hartbeespoort Dam, days after skeletal remains were found.
  • Police have opened an inquest and are working to identify the victim.
  • The discovery comes amid a search for a missing fisherman.

Police in the North West have opened an inquest following the discovery of another lifeless body in the Hartbeespoort Dam on Thursday, 16 April 2026.

This comes just a day after skeletal human remains were also found in the same dam.

The discoveries follow a week-long search for a missing fisherman, raising further questions about the incidents.

Police spokesperson Captain Majang Skalkie said the body found on Thursday has not yet been identified.

“An inquest has been opened and investigations are ongoing. The body of an unidentified male is estimated to be approximately 20 years old,” she said.

Authorities have urged anyone with information that could assist in identifying the deceased to come forward.
