ANC Will Announce Bathabile Dlamini’s Fate On Monday
Bathabile Dlamini’s future in the African National Congress (ANC) is uncertain, with the party expected to make a decision on her fate on Monday, March 28, 2022.
When a judge concluded that Dlamini lied under oath earlier this month, she was found guilty of perjury. This was in response to her testimony as the Minister of Social Development during an investigation into the social grant crisis.

She was blamed for failing to ensure that SASSA was better equipped to take over the handling of social grant payments at the time – when SASSA’s contract with the company Cash Paymaster Services – came to an end.
Dlamini was deemed irresponsible in her handling of the issue by the highest court in the land in September 2018, and she was compelled to pay a portion of the expenses of litigation brought by the organizations Black Sash and Freedom Under Law (FUL).
The ANC has previously stated that no one convicted of a crime will remain a member, however, Bathabile Dlamini was present at the ANC’s national executive committee meeting this weekend, according to eNCA.
According to ANC spokeswoman Pule Mabe, the party’s Treasurer-General Paul Mashatile would lead a press conference and announce a course of action.
“There will be a briefing tomorrow [Monday] conducted by the treasurer-general. The TG now overseas the work of the secretary-general owing to the ill health of the DSG. He will be able to outline decisions taken by the meeting on this matter,” Mabe said.

Under Dlamini’s leadership, the ANC Women’s League has been floundering. Several provinces have struggled to expand their membership. Simultaneously, the league has been chastised for its lack of action and focus on factionalism. According to a recent Mail & Guardian article, the ANCWL had R10 million “vanishing” from one of its trusts.
