ANC condemns the vandalization of the Chris Hani Memorial Site

The ANC, SABC and COSATU condemn the vandalization of the Chris Hani Memorial Site at the Thomas Nkobi cemetery in Ekurhuleni.

The party does not accept the possibility of strong winds being the reason for the damage caused to the memorial site. The ANC spokesperson, Pule Mabe claims that it is too coincidental that the timing of the damage made to the site happened on the same weekend as the picketing outside of the Constitutional Court.

The picketing is in response to Janusz Walus being granted parole by the Constitutional Court.

Walus is the convicted murderer of Chris Hani who has served 29 years in jail.

After Walus received parole from the Constitutional Court , the Minister of Home Affairs Aaron Motsoaledi announced that Walus is granted South African citizenship.

This will allow Walus to serve the remainder of this time in South Africa without the option to return to Poland.

Mabe says that this is the first incident reported since the site was erected seven years ago in 2015. The ANC would like the City of Ekurhuleni to investigate the incident.
