The ANC in Tshwane has announced that it will support ActionSA’s Dr Nasipha Moya for the position of mayor at a special council meeting on Wednesday.

Moya, who served as deputy mayor under Cilliers Brink, has been acting mayor for the past two weeks.

ANC spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri stated that they are backing Moya due to her experience and qualifications.

“We ask the people of Tshwane to support her and the new leadership, who will work to improve the city’s management, services, and growth,” she said.

“Once the mayor and her new team are in place, we will expedite service delivery and turn the city around.”

Moya will face former DA mayor Cilliers Brink in the election.

The mayoral position became available after Brink lost a no-confidence vote initiated by the ANC last week.

This followed ActionSA’s decision to leave the multi-party coalition and join the ANC in removing Brink from office.

Since losing control of Tshwane to the DA in 2016, the ANC has attempted but failed to regain power through several no-confidence votes. The city has seen six mayors during this period.
