Tank apologises to South Africa after cancelling performance

American R&B star Tank has disappointed fans after abruptly cancelling his much-anticipated performance in South Africa.

The performance was scheduled to headline the grand opening of Ndlala Mall in Arcadia, Pretoria.

The event was spearheaded by media personality Lerato Kganyago and her businessman husband, Thami Ndlala, who recently made headlines for purchasing an entire shopping mall.

To mark the occasion, the power couple planned to bring the “Maybe I Deserve” hitmaker to perform on 2 and 3 August. But now, those plans have been derailed.

Tank, whose real name is Durrell Babbs, confirmed the cancellation in a heartfelt video shared on his Instagram account.

Without delving into specifics, the 49-year-old singer explained that issues behind the scenes forced him to step back from the performance.

“Somethings have fallen apart business-wise that are going to prevent me from fulfilling my obligations to you,” he said.

“I firstly want to apologise to you, the fans, and all the people who were making plans to pull up and enjoy this R&B music. Hopefully, things can be resolved, and preferably, I can get up there.”

The cancellation has caused a ripple effect, leading to a postponement of the mall’s grand opening.

While it’s unclear if the rest of the original lineup will remain intact, fans are now awaiting word on whether beloved South African performer Zonke, also billed for the event will still take the stage.

The unexpected change has sparked speculation and disappointment online, especially from fans who’ve waited over a decade to see Tank live on South African soil.

As of now, no new date or replacement act has been officially confirmed.
