American singer and songwriter Rodriquez Jacquees Broadnax, known mononymously as Jacquees had social media abuzz when he started posting stories from various locations in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal over the past weekend.

JACQUEES VISITS KWAZULU-NATAL

American singer and songwriter Jacquees, known for his multiple hits such as B.E.D, At The Club and more, delighted Durbanites when he revealed he was in the coastal city. Most American celebrities often visit Johannesburg and Cape Town, and when they do come to Durban it’s usually the North.

However, Jacquees, who has a total of 5.8 million followers on Instagram, visited many places in Durban, including Umlazi. He had come to visit the hometown of one of his friends, who said he would take him to see where he grew up playing soccer. Take a look…

He also indulged in a Durban mutton curry, rice and papadum (a thin, crisp, cracker-like flatbread originating from the Indian subcontinent). The American singer fully took in the local culture of Durban. He also shared a video of him buying ice cream from a cooler box on Umhlanga beach.

THE ‘MIAMI’ OF SOUTH AFRICA

Many South Africans often joke that Durban is the “Miami” of South Africa, and Jacquees caught on quick. He joked that he brought his friends out to “Miami” while spending time in Umhlanga.

Jacquees revealed that he wants to collaborate with South Africans. He also posted a story inviting South African women to join a music video casting.

“They don’t give a DAMN about the Super Bowl over here 😂 I think it comes on at 1:30 a.m. but I think I need some South African artist and DJs for this remix 🤔,” he wrote.

This comes alongside the sad news of the passing of US rapper, Lil Jon’s son Nathan Smith.
