AmaZulu coach Brandon Truter has shed some light on the booking incidents that saw two of his troops sent off in the 1-all draw against Kaizer Chiefs in the MTN8 semi-final first leg clash on Sunday at FNB Stadium.

The entertaining match was stopped on a few occasions as referee Victor Gomes was seen dishing yellow and red cards to the AmaZulu players and bench.

Gomes showed Veluyeke Zulu red for what the referee deemed as a second bookable offence in the 54th minutes of the game, while the ref also gave Gabadinho Mhango, who was substituted a straight red for time delaying tactics, as per reports.

On top of that, Gomes also sent off Usuthu goalkeeper coach Johan Abselon.

TRUTER EXPLAINS

Victor Gomes was the referee in the Chiefs and AmaZulu first leg MTN8 encounter at FNB Stadium.

“What happened between me and Victor [Gomes]? Victor is always a spectacle, always,” Truter told the media

“He sent Keagan [Buchanan] off the field for a broken sock.

“And then when Keagan is off the pitch, George [Maluleke] is down, I’m shouting to George that if you don’t get treatment you’ll go off the pitch, then I’m two men down.

“I’m shouting to George; get up. He books me.

“I don’t know, we not allowed to coach, we not allowed to speak to players.”

Truter further stated he believes that his two players in Mhango and Zulu did not deserve to be sent off by Gomes.

“Gabadinho didn’t deserve to get sent off. An official told him to put on a shirt, he delayed and delayed then red card. Veluyeke Zulu, soft yellow card as well,” Truter added.

The referee’s decision saw a bench of angry AmaZulu players run to Gomes to confront him on the field after blowing the final whistle.

As a result, Gomes had to be escorted off the field by securities for safety.

Usuthu has all to play for in the second leg of the MTN8 semi-final.

Truter’s men host Amakhosi on October 23rd at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

The KZN outfit shift focus to DStv Premiership.
