AmaZulu will hold talks with some of the senior players in the coming weeks as their contracts are expiring at the end of the season, according to the club’s president Sandile Zungu.
However, Zungu did not want to name the players because he felt that might distract the dressing room.
Siphesihle Maduna’s contract with Usuthu will expire at the end of the season and so too that of striker Bongi Ntuli, who has unfortunately been mired by an injury this season at the time of need.
Veteran striker Lehlohonolo Majoro’s contract will also expire at the end of the season after he joined Usuthu in the 2019/20 season after leaving the now defunct Bidvest Wits.
At that time when he arrived, he signed a two-year deal and Usuthu handed him a rolling contract which was based on the performance afterwards.
Also, Ramahlwe Mphahlele’s deal with Usuthu will expire at the end of the season, but this publication revealed a few days ago that Usuthu are planning to extend his contract beyond this season after he impressed the club.
“I won’t reveal their names and I have learnt that once you talk to the media, you see the story and that puts you under pressure because there are other players who we haven’t spoken with,” said Zungu to iDiski Times.
“They (those we have not spoken to) will say ‘but the president has been quoted as saying some others are being spoken to but he is not speaking about us and that means we are not part of his plans’.
“So it is better I don’t speak about them because there are players we will not renew their contracts and others we are going to renew, but I can’t say the names. But there are quite a few players and I think they are about five senior players whose contracts are ending at the end of the season.”
Usuthu will also have to decide on the future of coach Romain Folz, who joined the Durban-based side in October on a deal until the end of the season when he replaced Brandon Truter.
Folz, who coached Marumo Gallants at the beginning of the campaign, has just won one match of the five he has been in charge thus far, including losing the MTN8 final last month to Orlando Pirates.
