AmaTuks set to embark on mass exodus

Motsepe Foundation Championship side University of Pretoria; AmaTuks is set to embark on a mass exodus ahead of the 2023/24 season.

AmaTuks had an underwhelming campaign in the just-ended Championship season which saw them finish mid-table on the log standings.

In the 20221/22 campaign, the Tshwane-based side marginally missed out on the automatic promotion to the DStv Premiership after finishing as runners-up behind Richards Bay FC.

Tlisane Motaung’s troops were tipped as favourites to gain promotion to the Premiership at the start of the season. However, they struggled to find a consistent winning form.

At the start of the season, Tuks lost a handful of their key players to DStv Premiership teams.

Amongst players who moved on from Tuks is Etiosa Ighodaro, Luvuyo Phewa, Thabang Sibanyoni, Siyanda Msani, Sanele Barns, Harold Majadibodu, Keegan Allan, Wonderboy Makhubu and Thakasani Mbanjwa.

AmaTuks looked to have not been affected by the departure of key players after going 10 games unbeaten in the opening games of the season.

In the just-concluded campaign, AmaTuks won nine games in the league, drawn 13 and lost eight times. They missed out on gaining promotion after finishing eighth on the league table.

Meanwhile, the club failed to achieve objectives set at the start of the season, prompting the club hierarchy to initiate changes.

In addition, this publication has gathered that at least 10 players are expected to leave Tuks.

“The club will be refreshing the squad for the new season,” a source with the club told FARPost.

“Recently, the club had a meeting with the players who are going to leave. The technical still have to decide on more players who are leaving.

“If you look at the striking force of the club, you’ll realise that the team struggled to score goals. That’s one area of concern.

“So all I can say is that expect many player movements at AmaTuks in this off-season,” added the source.
