AmaTuks coach Tlisane Motaung has revealed he has to tighten up his defence ahead of the Tshwane Derby and ensure the club achieves its goal of gaining promotion to the DStv Premiership.
Motaung was not happy with how his defenders were opened in the thrilling 3-2 win over Cape Town in their last league game, and the coach is working on a solution.
AmaTuks take on Pretoria Callies in the Tshwane Derby on Saturday afternoon (15:00) at the Lucas Moripe Stadium, and Motaung is eyeing a second win on the bounce.
However, what would make Motaung even happier is a clean sheet. In their opening two matches in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, AmaTuks were held to goalless draws against Polokwane City and Uthongathi.
MOTAUNG’s CONCERN…
“On Wednesday against Cape Town Spurs, we conceded two goals which we all know is not good,” Motaung told FARPost.
“Even best coaches will tell you that strikers win you games and defenders win you titles.
“If there’s any position, we have to focus on is our defence. We need to make sure that we don’t concede; then we’ll be in a better position to win matches,” added Mataung, who nearly sealed AmaTuks’ return to the topflight but came short in relegation/promotion playoffs
The Tshwane side has had a slow start to the new season with only a single win, two draws, and Motaung will be looking to build on their CT Spurs triumph.
“We are a team with many new players because if you remember well, we lost many players to the Premiership teams,” he added.
“So, it’s important to bring them nicely into our structures.
“We started a season a bit slow, we struggled to score goals, but a positive is that we were not conceding either, so we had to work more on creating chances and converting them,”
“Our goal is to do better than we did last season to put ourselves in a position to be promoted to the DStv Premiership, last season, we were close,” added the coach.
