Several traditional leaders in KwaZulu-Natal are upset that “royal rebels” were chosen to settle disputes among the Zulu Nation’s different clans.
They say they have disrespected King Misuzulu kaZwelithini.
The rebels include Prince Mbonisi, Prince Vulindlela, and Prince Mathuba kaBhekuzulu.
Amakhosi plan to use the King’s 50th birthday party on Saturday at kwaKhangela Amankengane Royal Palace to speak about their issues with the rebels.
The King’s Traditional Prime Minister, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, picked the “royal rebels” in August to help solve fights over the leadership in different clans.
Speaking anonymously, one leader said: “The ‘royal rebels’ are failing even to attend the Zulu Nation’s significant ceremonies hosted by King Misuzulu, which means they continue to disrespect him.
“So how are they going to address the infighting in the families of Amakhosi, who are also the subjects of King Misuzulu? This is what we will raise on Saturday with the King.”
King Misuzulu’s spokesperson, Prince Simphiwe Zulu, said about 300 traditional leaders will attend the birthday celebration, during which new leaders will be introduced to the King.
