Manchester City star Julian Alvarez is closing in on a record transfer to Atletico Madrid, with the deal potentially set to have an impact on Chelsea’s transfer business, too.

Europe

World champion Alvarez won it all in his time at the Etihad. Now, after 103 appearances, a record fee has been agreed for his sale.

According to multiple reports, the Argentine international will move to Atletico for £82-million (+/- R1.6-billion) with personal terms now being discussed.

The arrival of Alvarez is likely to have an effect on Chelsea’s purchase of Samu Omorodion. Sky Sports have reported that the forward will not be allowed to move to the Blues unless Atletico sign a replacement striker.

Conor Gallagher could go the other way, with the Chelsea captain on standby to make the flight to Madrid if negotiations go well.

Moving from Madrid to Barcelona, the coming days are crucial for the Catalans in their pursuit of Spanish star Dani Olmo.

The Leipzig man could sign a six-year deal with Barca for a fee in the region of £55-million (+/- R1.1-billion), according to Fabrizio Romano.

As for incomings at Leipzig, Euro 2024 star Xavi Simons has completed his return from PSG. The Dutchman will move on loan and then reassess his future plans next year, despite attempts from English clubs to lure him away now.

South Africa

In local news, Kaizer Chiefs have had a R10-million offer for Fawaaz Basadien rejected by Stellenbosch.

The left back was in stellar form last season and iDiski Times have reported that Stellies will back themselves to negotiate a better fee as his contract still has three years remaining.

There may be better news for Amakhosi on an attacking front as Polokwane City rejected an offer from Tunisia for their target Oswin Appollis, according to GOAL.

The 22-year-old Bafana Bafana star has been a target for Chiefs for some time. However, Esperance moved first and the rejection of their offer by Polokwane has given the Soweto Giants more time to plan a move for the winger.
