Seasoned news reader Aldrin Sampear shocked many when he disclosed that he was leaving the broadcasting world.

Aldrin announced his exit from Newzroom Afrika on social media, and on air.
He has since shared that he bagged a job at the Department of Tourism.

While on air he said: “Unfortunately, or fortunately, this is the end of my journey with Channel 405, Newzroom Afrika, and it is also a pause in my broadcasting career, which has been incredibly, incredibly illustrious.”

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter), Aldrin said he resigned from Newzroom Afrika because his skill has been sought for different challenges.

He shared that his decision to accept the offer to join the government was inspired by Tshwane Mayor Dr Nasiphi Moya’s PHD dissertation, The Negotiated Nation: Evaluating Nation Building in the Post-Apartheid South Africa.

“Reflections on Eskom board chairperson Mteto Nyati’s decision to answer the call to Public Service, have convinced me that there must be more that this darkie can do for his country,” he penned.

He added that he has joined the Department of Tourism, where he is led by Minister Patricia De Lille.

“I have joined the Department of Tourism under the leadership of Minister Patricia De Lille. This beautiful nation has done so much for me. I’m indebted. State policies like social grants and free primary healthcare, helped pull me out of poverty and journalism was the vehicle. Kasie FM, my first broadcasting home was itself supported by a state agency, the MDDA,” said Aldrin.

I’m Aldrin Sampear and I am BRILLIANT at what I do.

When I join companies, I fix what I can and always leave those organizations elevated. My departure from Newzroom Afrika is no different. While this moment is about me, I want to send a warm hug to my cheerleaders who have… pic.twitter.com/5gXX0cLHVK

His resignation comes after his suspension in April following a road rage incident with a 20-year-old female student. He later apologised and returned to the small screen almost a month later.
