Al Merrikh have sacked their head coach Lee Clark after their 3-1 defeat against CAF Champions League defending champions Al Ahly in Egypt on Friday evening.

The result eliminated the Sudanese giants from the competition with one game to play in the group stages.

Lee Clark saw his side claiming only one win and losing three, leaving them with four points and sitting bottom of the group.

The club released their (translated) statement Sunday afternoon:

“The Mars Council relieves Clark and assigns Ibrahima to lead the team,” the statement read.

“The Board of Directors of Al-Marreikh Club decided to exempt the coach of the English football team Lee Clark, the physical trainer Islam Jamal, and the performance analyst Ayman Al-Yamani from their mission, while thanking them for their period of work in the club.

“The decision to exempt Clark and his assistants came after listening to the report of the sports sector during the emergency meeting of the board of directors on Friday evening, following the team’s match against Al-Ahly of Egypt in the fifth round of the African Champions League groups.

“The council assigned the team’s general coach Ibrahim Hussein (Ibrahuma) to supervise the team’s matches in the Premier League, and the South African Sundowns match in the sixth round of the African Champions League groups.”

Ibrahim Hussein has been appointed as the Interim coach and he will be in charge for their clash against Mamelodi Sundowns on match day six.
