‘Al Ahly Are Desperate To Sell Tau’

Al Ahly are desperate to sell Percy Tau this window after his deadline day move broke down.

The South African was linked with a loan move to Ligue 2 side Le Havre, who are coached by Tau’s former mentor Luka Elsner.

Tau and Elsner worked together at Royal Union Saint Galloise, where the 28-year-old won the Proximus League Player of the Season in his sole campaign under the 40-year-old Slovenian before he went on to represent Club Brugge and Anderlecht in the Jupiler Pro League in the two years that followed.

Elsner tried to lure Tau to France but a move didn’t materialise because the involved parties couldn’t agree on the deal, according to Filgoal.

Meanwhile, former Al Ahly player-turned pundit Ahmed Shobier has insisted Tau has a prolonged injury, which is the reason why the club want to get rid of him.

“Medical examinations revealed that Percy Tau is suffering from a back injury that will keep him sidelined for a very long time,” Ahmed Shobeir said on ON Sport FM, as per Kingfut.

“All coaches acknowledge Percy Tau’s talent and his great potential but the injury is the reason behind his expected departure.

“Al Ahly are desperate to sell him in this window because they cannot afford to go into the new season without finding an adequate replacement.”

Recent reports that Tau was released by Al Ahly turned out not to be true. The Bafana Bafana international made 31 appearances for the Cairo giants, scoring eight goals and setting up six more.
