AKA’s mom reacts as ‘Mass Country’ reaches 42 million streams

The legacy of South African rapper AKA continues to shine brightly as his final album, Mass Country, has now recorded more than 42 million streams on Spotify.

The milestone underscores the lasting impact of Kiernan Forbes’ artistry and how his music continues to resonate far beyond South Africa’s borders.

Launched to critical praise, Mass Country captured AKA’s distinct sound, blending sharp lyricism with heavy beats and raw storytelling.

The project offered listeners an intimate look into his life, reflecting both personal struggles and his vision for the future of hip hop.

Since its release, songs from the album have become global anthems embraced by fans from all walks of life.

Reacting to the achievement, AKA’s mother Lynn Forbes expressed her pride and gratitude in an interview with SA Hip Hop Mag.

“It’s overwhelming in the most beautiful way. To think that Mass Country has been streamed on Spotify, more than 45 million times worldwide. It shows that Kiernan’s voice, his spirit, and his message are still alive and resonating. For me, it’s a reminder that even though he’s no longer here, his art continues to move people and carry the South African flag far and wide. It makes me proud, but also deeply grateful to the Megacy for keeping his legacy alive,” she said.
