AKA Wins “The Braai Show” Legal Battle
It’s confirmed dude owns 50% of the show! 2021 wasn’t an easy year for AKA as he lost his fiancee Nelli and shortly after that, he discovered that The Braai Show producers has replaced him with his rival Cassper Nyovest.
But the rapper didn’t take this one lying down he ramped up his fight against production companies, Cake Media and MakhuduCom Media and state broadcaster SABC.
Through Tailor Made Legal Solutions, the Fela in Versace hitmaker fought for 50 percent of the copyrights to the SABC1 food and talk show “The Braai Show,” which aired its second season with rapper Cassper Nyovest taking over as host from AKA, who helmed season one.
AKA and MakhuduCom Media formed a partnership to create content for AKA TV in March 2020. Both parties agreed that the entire copyright and other rights would be vested in them jointly.
However, MakhuduCom was unable to pay for the show and ceded all rights to Cake Media in exchange for payment of production costs in October 2020. AKA and Cake Media had reached an agreement. “The Braai Show” then aired on SABC1.
Fast forward to February 2021, the SABC wanted another season, and AKA was consulted and on board, but he was unable to continue with his hosting duties due to personal reasons. Cassper was then approached by Cake Media to host the show.
The rapper was then completely excluded from the deal. He then went on a legal battle demanding that he receives his 50% entitlement as joint owner which includes proceeds from the channel and sponsorships, brand or otherwise.

He also wants appropriate credit as the executive producer of the show. Now he has out victorious! Taking to his Instagram the rapper celebrated his victory and wrote: “Special thanks to Molai Attorneys and my counsel, Adv. Tshidiso Ramogale … And thank you to the Megacy as always. Let this serve as a warning to ANYBODY in the entertainment industry, individual, production company or broadcaster, who seeks to steal our ideas. Get those coins ready.”
