The case against Siyabonga and Malusi Ndimande, accused in the murder of rapper Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes and his friend Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane, has been formally transferred to the Durban High Court, marking a significant step toward trial.

The brothers face multiple charges, including double murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and attempted murder, relating to the fatal shooting outside a restaurant on Florida Road in Durban in February 2023.

High-profile murder

Forbes and Motsoane were shot and killed outside the venue in what has become one of South Africa’s most high-profile murder investigations.

According to the SABC, the Ndimande brothers will now stand trial alongside five co-accused: Lindokuhle Mkhwanazi, Lindani Ndimande, Siyanda Myeza, Mziwethemba Gwabeni, and another accused also named Lindokuhle Ndimande.

The accused recently abandoned their bail application, allowing the matter to proceed directly toward trial proceedings in the High Court.

Coordinated attack

The State is expected to rely on a combination of forensic evidence, CCTV footage, and cellphone data to link the accused to the alleged coordinated attack.

A pre-trial conference has been scheduled for Friday, 19 June, with the trial expected to commence in July as the case enters its next phase.
