The hip-hop fraternity is buzzing with excitement as rappers take the lead in nominations for this year’s South African Music Awards (Samas). In a bittersweet moment, the late rapper AKA has received the most nominations with six nods.
His album, Mass Country, has been recognized in multiple categories, including Male Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Engineered Album, Best Collaboration (for the single Lemons [Lemonade] featuring Nasty C), Best Collaboration (for the single Company featuring Kiddominant), and Best Produced Music Video (for Lemons [Lemonade] featuring Nasty C).

K.O’s album SR3 and the single Sete featuring Young Stunna and Blxckie have been acknowledged in the categories of Male Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Produced Music Video, and Remix of the Year for Sete featuring Young Stunna, Oxlade, and Diamond Platnumz.
Sjava’s Isibuko album has also earned him a well-deserved spot in the fiercely contested Male Artist of the Year category. Additionally, he has secured nominations for Album of the Year, Best Produced Album, and Best Engineered Album.
Not to be left behind, the self-proclaimed Kings Of Amapiano, Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa, have also been recognized for their outstanding contributions to the music industry. Kabza De Small has received four nominations, while DJ Maphorisa has garnered three. They have also been nominated twice for their collaboration as Scorpion Kings.
