A London-bound Air India flight crashed minutes after departing from Ahmedabad, India on Thursday, 12 June, killing an unknown number of passengers.
Reuters reported that the aircraft, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner carrying 242 people, went down in a residential neighbourhood near the airport. The flight was headed for London Gatwick Airport in the United Kingdom.
Officials also confirmed that passengers on board the Air India flight included 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese citizens, and one Canadian. Among the total were 11 children and 217 adults.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing the Air India plane fly low over homes before a massive explosion lit up the sky.
“The injured are being taken to the nearest hospitals,” Air India posted on X, adding that details of the plane crash were still being gathered.
