Former Al Ahly striker Mohamed Fadl has urged the club not to extend Pitso Mosimane’s contract again.
The CAF Champions League defending champions are on the verge of reaching yet another CAF Champions League after a fantastic 4-0 win over two-time CAF Champions League winners ES Setif.
An indifferent run in the league has given the former Red Devils attacker reason to believe the club would be better off without Mosimane at the helm.
Mosimane after their draw against Ceramica Cleopatra last week, Al Ahly failed to win any of their last three league games and scored just one goal in the process.
The recent results mean that Mosimane’s side is now eight points behind their arch-rivals Zamalek – albeit with three games in hand over the reigning league champions.
“I think Mosimane is a good coach, but I also think Al Ahly should reconsider extending his contract,” Fadl told ON Time Sports. “I hope Al Ahly hire [Hervé] Renard or [Vahid] Halilhodžić and I know the club can bring in such names just like when they signed [Rene] Weiler a while ago.
“But to his credit, Mosimane has won trophies and maybe that’s why Al Ahly should renew his contract because there is not enough time right now to bring in someone else. They could extend his contract by just one year but certainly not more than that.”
The ten-time CAF Champions League winners will now face ES Setif in the second leg of the Champions League as they hunt their third CAF Champions League in a row.”
