Al Ahly have confirmed Percy Tau is nearing his return to full training ahead of their CAF Champions League clash against Monastir this weekend.

Tau was subject to intense speculation over his future during the off-season but saw a potential exit fall through due to his recent injury and demands for a loan fee.

Ligue 2 side Le Harve and a Saudi Arabian club were reportedly keen on luring the Bafana Bafana star away from the club on a season-long loan but it appears he will now form part of Marcel Koller’s first-team plans.

As one of the highest-paid players on the continent, much is expected of the 28-year-old this season who ‘began participating in group exercises’ this week, as per the club’s official statement.

He’s been placed under a special program developed by the club’s medical team in order to return to full fitness in an attempt to avoid the recent muscle injuries that have plagued him over the last few months.

Ahly holds a 1-0 lead over the Tunisian side for a place in the group stage of Africa’s elite club competition and Tau will be looking to perhaps feature for the return leg in Cairo on Saturday afternoon.

Since joining the club from Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion in August last year in a deal worth a reported €1.8-million (R30m), Tau has scored eight goals and registered six assists in 31 games for the club of the Century.
