Agent – No Chiefs & Pirates Talks With Benni

Benni McCarthy’s agent Rob Moore has revealed that the new Manchester United first-team coach never had any formal discussions with Kaizer Chiefs or Orlando Pirates.

McCarthy, 44, joined Erik Ten Hag’s backroom staff at United as first-team coach, the Premier League club confirmed on last week Saturday.

Moore later revealed that McCarthy had to go through interviews with Ten Hag and also conduct a training session with the club’s U23 side, which was analysed by the United head coach.

And McCarthy is understood to have impressed the Dutchman, so much so that he made him part of his technical team at Old Trafford.

However, before his move to England, McCarthy was also linked to several clubs in South Africa, with agent now stating there were not any official approaches from the two Soweto giants.

“He never applied for any positions at Chiefs or Pirates in the last months,” he told Thabiso Mosia on SAFMSportOn.

“There were never any discussions with Chiefs and Pirates and Benni McCarthy.”

When quizzed whether any other Premier Soccer League teams were interested in McCarthy, Moore confirmed that one local club looked into him.

“There was maybe one other club, but I wouldn’t want to say [more],” he added.

“It wasn’t one that he was going to consider. We always felt that maybe, if it was possible, to try and make that jump onto the European ladder.”

At United, McCarthy will work with the club’s strikers, but also help the side with their overall positioning and attacking play, as Ten Hag confirmed.
