From the dusty streets of Mbare, a suburb in Zimbabwe, the actor knew he wanted to re-write the narrative of his life. “I grew up in the hood, climbing trees in the yard and playing slug (foosball) at the shops like most kids,” he says. Undecided on his career path, the actor is stuck between choosing the arts and archaeology. His fate calls him, and he lands a job at the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation. “The production team initially cast for anyone who spoke an African language other than those spoken in South Africa. So, it was Nigerians, Congolese, Ghanaians, Zimbabweans, Malawians, it was not easy, and we all had to audition in our own home languages.
I made it. I got the role of a lifetime as an African actor, here on South African television, this is a huge achievement and I would like to believe that I have made it. Like any actor here in South Africa, landing a role in a huge production is the ultimate achievement; it’s all you want.”
