African Legend Aboutrika Hits Back At Pitso Criticism

African legend Mohamed Aboutrika has hailed Pitso Mosimane as “one of the best coaches in Egyptian football and Al Ahly” history, and defended the South African tactician over criticism by some club legends.

Aboutrika, who some call the best African footballer to have never played in Europe, lifted multiple trophies with Al Ahly during his heyday, including five CAF Champions League titles. He also won two Africa Cup of Nations with Egypt, scoring the winning goal against Cameroon in 2008.

He is regarded among the greatest players to have graced the beautiful game in Africa, and Aboutrika now defended Mosimane over the constant criticism he receives from several other Al Ahly legend and Egyptian pundits, including his former teammate Wael Gooma.

“I respect Gomaa’s opinion, but Mosimane’s numbers and results with Al Ahly were great,” Aboutrika said on beIN Sports, as per KingFut.

“He is one of the best coaches in the history of Egyptian football and Al Ahly, coming after Nándor Hidegkuti and Manuel Jose.

“Pitso Mosimane is one of the greatest coaches in the history of Al Ahly due to winning titles during the period in which he was present, and the numbers prove that.

“In the big matches, we used to be confident as Al Ahly fans, because we know what he is capable of doing.”

Mosimane won back-to-back CAF Champions League and back-to-back CAF Super Cup titles at Al Ahly, as well as one Egypt Cup, while also collecting two bronze medals at the FIFA Club World Cup.

He is now in charge of Al Ahli Saudi FC and guided them back into the Saudi Pro League after the club had been relegated for the first time in their history.
