Tyla wins Favourite Global Music Star (Africa) award
Tyla continues to fly the South African flag high, this time securing a major international win at the 2025 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards.
The 23-year-old global star took home the coveted Favourite Global Music Star (Africa) award.
Held at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, the lively awards show was packed with music, colour, and of course, the iconic green slime.
Tyla not only graced the stage as a first-time host but also delivered a standout moment when her win was announced, beating out top nominees from across Asia, Europe, Latin America, the UK, and beyond.
Clearly moved by the recognition, Tyla accepted the award with heartfelt gratitude.
“This means the world to me, to represent Africa on a global stage and be recognised by all of you amazing kids out there … wow. Thank you for believing in me and dancing with me. Africa to the world!”
Her appearance and win marked a proud moment for South African music, as the Grammy-winning singer continues her rapid rise in global pop culture.
The honour joins a growing list of accolades she’s earned over the past year, including wins at the Grammys and the American Music Awards, as well as more than 30 other international recognitions.
While the spotlight was also shared with artists like Sabrina Carpenter, who walked away with multiple awards, it was Tyla’s moment of triumph that had fans back home and across the continent buzzing.
