South African music and television producer Oscar Mlangeni has been appointed as an interim non-executive composer and author director of the Southern African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO).

Mlangeni, the founder of the record label Bulldwagz Entertainment, which discovered kwaito artists such as Mozambiya, Msawawa and Mshoza, was appointed after SAMRO requested him to join the organisation and contribute to its growth and development.

SAMRO recruited Mlangeni via a letter written to him by the organisation ‘s company secretary Marianne Fourie on May 18 2026.

In the letter, which Africa Daily has seen, Fourie stated that they had decided to recruit Mlangeni from a pool of candidates available within the organisation, subject to his acceptance and completion of the remaining appointment processes.

“In this regard, we kindly request that you confirm, in writing, whether you remain willing and able to accept the interim appointment and fulfil the duties and responsibilities associated with serving as a non-executive,” reads the letter.

Fourie further said that Mlangeni’s interim appointment will remain effective until the next annual general meeting, at which he will retire in accordance with the memorandum of incorporation.

She advised him that he could avail himself for election should he wish to continue serving on the board.

Mlangeni accepted the challenge and was subsequently appointed to the board.

“I would like to formally confirm my willingness and availability to accept this interim appointment in terms of Section 68(3) of the Companies Act, 2008, and Clause 6.10 of the memorandum of incorporation.

“I am honoured by the board’s confidence in my nomination and appointment, and I accept the responsibilities associated with serving as a non-executive director of SAMRO. I undertake to discharge my fiduciary duties in the best interests of the Organisation, in compliance with the Companies Act, the memorandum of incorporation, and all applicable governance principles, policies, and protocols.

“Please proceed with the next steps relating to the formal appointment documentation, consent to act, onboarding, and governance processes,” he said in a response letter he wrote to Fourie.
