Actress Sonia Mbele (Ntombi) speaks on dumping Generations for her husband

Mzansi actress and director Sonia Mbele has always been open about the challenges she’s faced in her marriage, leading to her divorce.

Speaking to Kaya 959 this week, Sonia shared that it was a difficult time in her career as she had to put some of her dreams on hold.

“You know when something is not working and you still want to make it work in any way. I remember being on the biggest show in the country and not being able to watch it because it made people around me uncomfortable. It became deeper,” she told Dineo and Sol Phenduka.

Sonia Mbele was married to businessman Leslie Sedibe. The couple tied the knot in 2006 after dating for a couple of years.

Sadly the couple decided to file for divorce after 8 years of marriage. They divorced in 2014.

She revealed that she suffered a mild stroke at the time.

Sonia and Leslie’s split made headlines as she faced a lot of negative criticism from the public.

Not aware of what happened behind the scenes some criticized Sonia for not fighting to save her marriage.

In an exclusive interview with Times Live, Sonia revealed why she and Leslie got divorced:

“I don’t know of anyone who willingly walks away from their marriage if they still want to make it work. But the truth is Leslie and I were two different people who wanted different things. Yes, we loved each other… I became the person that he wanted me to be and lost myself in the process.”

This had a ripple effect on her as she even once contemplated committing suicide.

Sonia has been raising her four children as a single mother.

Following the divorce, Sonia rose up and got back on her feet.

Mbele found a way to bounce back from that dramatic experience and rebuild her brand stronger and better than before.
