Sources close to the case revealed that Lungelo Mpangase used various tactics to coerce the man into paying for her lavish lifestyle. She claimed that she needed money for her car instalment, which amounted to a whopping R80,000. She also demanded a R30,000 monthly ‘girlfriend allowance’, which she said was for her personal needs and expenses. She also asked him to buy her expensive gifts, such as LV sneakers worth R22,000. And as if that was not enough, she also took R20,000 in cash from him for no apparent reason.

The man, who was blinded by love and trust, complied with all her requests without questioning her motives or intentions. He hoped that by spoiling her and making her happy, he would secure their relationship and make her love him more.

The fall: How Lungelo Mpangase broke the man’s heart and bank account

The man’s friends and family, who initially celebrated his newfound romance, became worried and concerned as they witnessed his life spiralling out of control. They tried to warn him about Lungelo Mpangase’s possible ulterior motives and urged him to be careful with his money. However, he refused to listen to them and defended his girlfriend at all costs.

He soon realised his mistake when Lungelo Mpangase disappeared without a trace, leaving him heartbroken and bankrupt. He discovered that she had blocked him on all social media platforms and changed her phone number. He also found out that she had been involved in similar scams before and that he was not her only victim.

He also sought help from his friends and family, who offered him support and solidarity as he tried to recover from the emotional and financial damage.

The lesson: How to avoid falling prey to online scammers

Lungelo Mpangase’s case is not an isolated one. There are many online scammers who prey on unsuspecting people who are looking for love and companionship. They use fake profiles, photos, and stories to lure them into their traps. They then exploit their emotions and manipulate them into sending money or gifts.

To avoid falling victim to such scams, it is important to be vigilant and cautious when engaging with strangers online. Here are some tips on how to protect yourself from online scammers:

  • Do not send money or gifts to someone you have never met in person or verified their identity.
  • Do not share your personal or financial information with anyone online.
  • Do some research on the person you are talking to. Check their social media profiles, photos, and stories for any inconsistencies or red flags.
  • Be wary of anyone who professes their love too quickly or asks for money for emergencies or sob stories.
  • If you suspect that you are being scammed, report it immediately to the relevant authorities and platforms.
