Maps Moponyane bags a new role on Mzansi Magic‘s new program Mzansi Icons; the show honours and celebrates living legends across different industries. Maps is the son of Marks Maponyane, the retired South African football player. Icons and legends are not a novelty to Maps as he grew up surrounded by them.
Mzansi Icons is a show that discusses how legends made it to the top and some lessons they learned along the way. The show also recognises and honours these exceptional South Africans and gives them their flowers while they can still smell them.
Talking to Drum Magazine, Maps said:
I think it is important, as a people, to tell our own stories. So the guests on the show will share their journeys, and the viewers will get to see them from a different lens. The beautiful conversations are exactly just that, conversations and not structured interviews. We get to know them, in an unrestricted or media-posed way.”I have seen many people come and go in the industry. So our conversations with the guests will be about that staying power. For them to talk about how they were able to create longevity and not disappear into the background.

The show also reveals the real stories behind living legends. The show’s guests will open up about their journey to fame, and Mzansi will get to know them from a different lens. The first guests to feature on the show include kwaito legend and entrepreneur Kabeloabalane, sports executive Jessica Motaung, musician and entrepreneur Khuli Chana and marketing guru Zibusiso Mkhwanazi.
The guests will be telling their stories of success, fighting against odds, victory, overcoming adversity, struggling with success, and the rewards that come with it.
South Africans love their media personalities, and Mzansi Icons allows them to get to know them in their own words. With a host who has proven his reliability and is versatile enough to dive deep into the topic as deftly as he can keep things light. The new show is a good hit show on Mzansi Magic, and its debut date will be announced soon.
Shirley Adonisi, Director of Local Entertainment Channels at MNet, also shared that Mzansi Icons was produced to give Mzansi a platform to learn in-depth information regarding their living legends.
