British actor Idris Elba has been knighted by King Charles III for his dedicated service to young people.
The 53-year-old star of Luther and The Wire received the honour for his work through The Elba Hope Foundation, a charitable organisation he established alongside his wife, Sabrina Dhowre Elba.
Speaking to Sky News, Sir Idris dedicated the honour to the youth his foundation supports, noting that the accolade belongs to the “talent, ambition and resilience” of the young people who drive their mission.
He utilised the moment to call for a collective societal responsibility, urging for “sustained, practical support” to help the younger generation find viable alternatives to violence and conflict.
The Elba Hope Foundation focuses on delivering actionable solutions through three primary pillars: education, economic opportunity, and entrepreneurship.
By investing in these areas, the foundation aims to empower marginalised youth and provide the necessary tools for long-term success, further cementing the actor’s impact beyond his achievements in the global film industry.
