ActionSA names five more mayoral hopefuls for key Limpopo municipalities

ActionSA has unveiled a further slate of mayoral candidates for key municipalities in Limpopo as the party ramps up its campaign ahead of the 2026 local government elections.

The latest candidates, announced on Saturday at the Bulamahlo Thusong Centre in Tzaneen, will contest municipalities across Mopani and Vhembe districts as the party seeks to expand its footprint in the province.

The newly announced candidates are Dr Mike Ramothwala for Greater Tzaneen Municipality, Ponani Makhubele for Greater Giyani Municipality, Maripe “Mmirwaa” Mangena for Mopani District Municipality, Reuben Mosila for Greater Letaba Municipality and Erick Mafanedza for Makhado Local Municipality.

ActionSA Limpopo chairperson Victor Mothemela said the announcement formed part of the party’s broader strategy to restore governance in municipalities it believes have been undermined by corruption, poor financial management and failing service delivery.

“ActionSA has officially announced a further group of mayoral candidates for key municipalities across Limpopo, each ready to take up the fight to fix broken municipalities and restore accountable, effective governance across the province’s municipalities,” Mothemela said.

He said the party’s growing support across communities in Limpopo reflected public demand for ethical and merit-based leadership.

“From Tzaneen to Makhado, ActionSA’s growth across these communities is a testament to the appeal of the capable, ethical and merit-based leadership we are committed to bringing to local government throughout Limpopo,” he said.

Mothemela said the candidates had emerged from a competitive selection process and were chosen for their experience, integrity and understanding of the communities they intend to serve.

According to the party, the candidates will prioritise infrastructure investment, sound financial management, economic growth and efforts to combat corruption and lawlessness in local government.

“Our deliberate effort to usher in a new brand of patriotic leadership in Limpopo is a response to the reality that the province now, more than ever, needs leaders who understand local challenges and are prepared to act decisively to address them,” Mothemela said.

He added that the candidates were prepared to assume office should the party secure electoral support in November.

“ActionSA is grateful to these leaders for stepping forward to serve. They are ready to work, ready to lead and ready to deliver for their communities,” he said.

The announcement comes as political parties intensify campaigning and unveil candidates ahead of the local government elections in November, with municipalities expected to remain a key battleground amid growing voter dissatisfaction over service delivery and governance failures.
