  • ActionSA’s Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate, Xolani Khumalo, has been officially sworn in as a councillor to gain essential governance experience.
  • Khumalo and fellow party member Gavin Siti filled two council vacancies created after ActionSA fired two underperforming councillors.
  • The political newcomer expressed confidence in his ability to succeed, citing ActionSA President Herman Mashaba’s lack of prior mayoral experience.

ActionSA’s mayoral hopeful for Ekurhuleni, has officially been installed as a councillor in the metro.

The party has clarified that this appointment is designed to give Khumalo, a political newcomer, vital governance experience leading up to the next local government elections.

Khumalo and a fellow party member, Gavin Siti, were sworn in at the council chambers in Germiston.

They fill two vacancies that arose after ActionSA dismissed two previous Ekurhuleni councillors for underperformance.

Expressing his readiness for the new challenge, Khumalo stated he looks forward to representing the people.

He noted that the opportunity was presented based on his “track record and the work that I have done,” rather than his political experience.

Khumalo voiced strong confidence in his ability to learn quickly, drawing inspiration from ActionSA President Herman Mashaba.

“If other people can do it then so can I,” he said.

“Our president… had zero [experience] in mayorship work but he managed to do it.”
