Aaron Motsoaledi Denies Working With Operation Dudula

Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, Minister of Home Affairs, has denied any involvement with Operation Dudula. According to Motsoaledi, his department has its own body that deals with the issue of illegal foreign nationals in South Africa.

Motsoaledi said the inspectorate enforces immigration laws. This pertains to the deportation and removal of illegal foreign nationals from Mzansi. Provincial chapters of Operation Dudula have recently been established. This comes on the heels of its debut in the North West earlier this week.

The movement marched in Durban’s CBD a few weeks ago. They also carried out a few operations in Gauteng. Nhlanhla ‘Lux’ Dlamini, the leader of Operation Dudula, has also led a number of marches in recent months.

He stated that the task of identifying and removing alleged illegal foreign nationals under Operation Dudula is not a Home Affairs Department program. Motsoaledi explained that his department is legally mandated to ensure that people in South Africa are legally permitted to be here.

“The inspectorate does regular inspections and conducts investigations to detect those who may be here unlawfully. Multi-disciplinary operations with the South African Police Services and Metropolitan Police, including inspections of businesses, is a key source of the detection of illegal foreign nationals, their arrest and deportation,”

Motsoaledi went on to say that illegal migration is a global issue that many countries are dealing with. He went on to say that the government has no idea how many illegal foreign nationals are in South Africa. This is due to the manner in which illegal foreign nationals enter South Africa, according to IOL.

“The RSA government does not have a precise number of undocumented immigrants in the Republic, due to the clandestine nature of the act of being here illegally,” said Motsoaledi.
