Many people know Sho Madjozi as the Gqom musician with colourful clothes and hair who made the John Cena hit song. The singer is also a poet and has written several poems under the author name Maya The Poet during her school days. She has also shown her face onscreen as an actress, appearing on the hit Venda series Muvhango as a minor character and also on Isibaya.

Her early childhood days and blended family

Sho Madjozi came from a rather medium-income household as a child and because of her father’s Job for an NGO. Her father, a European by descent, ran a company that helped people with Land Claims. She travelled with her dad to most countries around Africa as he travelled for his Job.

Sho Madjozi’s education qualifications from High School

Sho Madjozi got her High School education at the International school of Tanganyika in Tanzania. She earned herself a scholarship to study abroad after completing her studies there. She attended Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts, America, where she studied for her Degree in Creative Writing and African Studies. Upon her return to South Africa, Sho Madjozi also furthered her studies with the University of South Africa and even started songwriting for musicians.

With her knowledge and education, Sho Madjozi gets to write her songs and songs for other artists while also working on Poetry. She is known for her Tsonga dressing style and has made it her signature look as she is proud of her mother’s culture, which she takes as her own. Even her hairstyles are done from the influence of the Tuareg and Fulani cultures, women and girls. Apart from them, she also takes her Inspiration from the former Boom Shaka group comprised of Idols judge Thembi Seete and Lebo Mathosa.
