AmaZulu FC owner eyes R100-billion Lotto tender

AmaZulu football club owner Sandile Zungu wants to take control of the National Lottery as the current contract with Ithuba nears its end.

Zungu’s company, Gold Rush Consortium, is one of eight bidders shortlisted for the  R100-billion tender.

City Press said bidding for the tender required a non-refundable fee of about R3-million.

Other short-listed companies include Thebe Investment Corporation, Hosken Consolidated Investments, the Umbulalelo Consortium, and Giya Games.

Zungu also serves as the vice-chancellor of the Mangosuthu University of Technology in Durban.

When approached for comment on Tuesday, Zungu told Scrolla.Africa that he was in meetings and would be available later but could not be reached by the time of publication 

The National Lottery Commission Board, represented by lawyer Tebogo Malatji, revealed that Trade and Industry minister Parks Tau has yet to announce any changes to the timetable for the fourth National Lottery tender application process. 

The successful bidder is expected to be announced by the end of August.
