Congo – The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) will soon start vaccinating against mpox. The DRC, which has a more deadly strain of the virus, has seen a significant rise in cases, making up over 90% of Africa’s nearly 19,000 cases. Vaccines from the EU, Bavarian Nordic, the United States, and Japan are expected to arrive soon. The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) is working on how to safely store and distribute the vaccines. The World Health Organization has declared the outbreak a global health emergency.

Palestine – Thousands of Palestinians in Gaza are fleeing again after the Israeli military sent out evacuation orders, affecting aid routes and safe areas. Evacuations are happening near the central city of Deir al-Balah, parts of Khan Younis, and the Al-Maghazi refugee camp. The streets are covered with leaflets from the Israeli military ordering people to leave. Many people, already displaced several times, are living in constant fear, with few safe places left to go.

Greece – A 50-day-old baby was rescued on the Greek island of Tilos after being stranded for three days with his parents and a group of migrants. The group was abandoned by human traffickers in a mountainous area and had to use seawater to make the baby’s milk as their supplies ran low. The baby was rescued by sea, while others were airlifted by helicopter. The mayor of Tilos, Maria Kamma, spoke about the ongoing humanitarian crisis on the island and the injuries and abuse suffered by migrants. She praised the local emergency teams and volunteers but said they have received limited help from outside.

Romania – Romanian police raided properties owned by Andrew Tate as part of a new investigation into serious allegations, including human trafficking and sexual abuse of minors. Tate and his brother Tristan, who deny the charges, claim they are victims of a conspiracy. The raids were carried out in Bucharest and Ilfov by Romania’s organised crime agency. The brothers were first detained in December 2022 and are currently under house arrest. They also face a civil case in the UK, where they are accused of rape and assault by four British women.
