Malema and Ndlozi mend fences

EFF leaders Julius Malema and Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi appear to have mended their fallout amid reports that Ndlozi was about to defect to the Umkhonto Wesizwe party.

Malema fueled speculation that Ndlozi would be next after EFF former deputy president Floyd Shivambu left The Fighters.

The suspicion was raised when Ndlozi’s wife Mmabatho Montsho “liked” Shivambu’s tweet about leaving the EFF.

Malema said this incident and Ndlozi’s failure to publicly defend the EFF from public criticism suggested Ndlozi’s heart was no longer in the party.

Ndlozi has not responded to these baseless allegations by Malema and continues to participate in EFF programmes.

On Wednesday he posted a new picture of himself in EFF regalia as a fake resignation letter circulated on social media.

Later in the afternoon, Ndlozi accompanied Malema to the home of Gauteng Finance MEC Lebogang Maile to pay his tribute to the family. The Maile family is mourning the death of the MEC’s son.

Ndlozi and Malema spent most of Wednesday afternoon together and later shared images of what appeared to be a brotherly relationship.

Ndlozi’s popularity in the EFF is a major threat to Malema’s grip on power, with various lobby groups nominating Ndlozi for the position of president or deputy president.

Malema, who has been president for 11 years, is seeking a third term at the party’s elective conference in December.
