The Western Cape High Court case involving 10 MPs from the uMkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party has been postponed to give the Jacob Zuma-led party time to submit its response.
The court in Cape Town heard the case on Wednesday on an urgent basis.
The 10 MPs, led by Thami Khuzwayo, want the court to stop their expulsion until the correct processes are followed.
They say they should have been correctly informed of their expulsions and only found out through a press statement.
Some MPs were told they had lost their party membership, while others were falsely reported as having quit.
These MPs are part of a group of 18 who were recently expelled by the party, which claimed they were fraudulently added to the list of MPs before the 29 May elections.
The court has postponed the case until 3 September.
