Vardy and Leicester back in the big time!

Leicester City’s return to the Premier League was marked by a trademark Jamie Vardy goal as the veteran rescued a point over Tottenham Hotspur on Monday night football.

In the final match of gameweek one, the King Power Stadium was the venue; but it would be the visitors that would put on a dominant first half display.

Former Leicester man James Maddison found Pedro Porro for the opener on the half hour mark. Since his debut in 2018-19,  no Premier League midfielder has been involved in more away goals than Maddison, who has now scored 25 and assisted 25.

While Dominic Solanke’s Spurs debut saw him test Mads Hermansen’s goal a couple of times, Ange Postecoglou’s side will regret not adding to their advantage.

The momentum swung once Vardy levelled matters on 57 minutes; with the home fans rallying behind the Foxes.

The 37-year-old may well have even won it for Leicester if not for a vital Guglielmo Vicario save at the death.

Ahead of their trip to fellow promoted side Fulham, Steve Cooper’s side will be happy to have taken a point, with the Foxes now avoiding defeat in their opening game of a league campaign in each of the previous six seasons.
