Could Chiefs be in for another poor season?

Extra Time: Kaizer Chiefs have not had good pre-season results, which should concern their fans and the new coach, writes Michael Madyira

Kaizer Chiefs had a quiet, secretive pre-season training camp in Turkey, but now they must make some noise.

They played a few friendly matches and two games against Al Shahania and Dibba Al Hisn behind closed doors.

They beat Al Shahania 5-2, with Ranga Chivaviro scoring four goals, and drew 0-0 with Al Hisn.

The public first saw what Chiefs had been working on when they hosted Tanzanian giants Young Africans in the Toyota Cup in Bloemfontein.

This was the first chance for Chiefs fans and others to see their team’s progress.

Yanga won 4-0, leaving Chiefs’ supporters worried about the upcoming season.

The defensive mistakes that have troubled Chiefs in recent seasons showed up again.

This did not give confidence that new coach Nasredinne Nabi has fixed their defensive problems.

Friendly match results usually don’t mean much, but they can hint at what’s to come.

Chivaviro’s four goals against Al Shahania were promising, though he didn’t score in the other two games, raising questions about other Chiefs forwards.

Fans worried about a weak defence might find hope in Chivaviro’s performance in Turkey.

Still, PSL fans are left wondering if Chiefs will have a weak defence or if they will improve, especially if another forward steps up to support Chivaviro.
