Police shot and killed five wanted suspects in KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday night.

Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed the shooting.

He said five suspects, wanted for multiple murder and business robbery cases, were killed in a shootout with police in Cato Crest.

“A team from various police units in KwaZulu-Natal was tracking the suspects and got intelligence about their location,” said Colonel Netshiunda.

The suspects were cornered at a rented double-storey flat on Standard Road in Cato Crest.

When police arrived and identified themselves, the suspects started shooting through the windows.

“A shootout ensued, and after the ceasefire, five suspects were found with fatal gunshot wounds. An AK-47 assault rifle, three handguns, and drugs were found with the suspects.”

Colonel Netshiunda said the suspects were linked to four murder cases, 13 business robberies, and a carjacking in the Cato Manor and Durban Central areas.

No police officers were injured during the shootout.
